Climate chart - Rio Grande
The climate of Rio Grande is subtropical, with very mild winters (June to August) and warm summers (December to March). Rainfall is quite abundant and there is no dry season.
Rio Grande is a city of 195,000 inhabitants, located in the extreme south of Brazil, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, at 32 degrees south latitude. The city is located near the coast of the South Atlantic, on a small peninsula within the Lagôa dos Patos, a large coastal lagoon.

In winter, there can be quite cold periods, during which the temperature can approach freezing at night, and can remain around 10 °C (50 °F) during the day. Additionally, the wind and the humidity of the sea can increase the feeling of cold.

During the day, it can get hot all year round, in fact the heat records are around 30 °C (86 °F) even in winter. Instead, in summer, there can be heat waves, during which the temperature can reach 38/40 °C (100/104 °F).

To visit Rio Grande you can choose spring and autumn, in October-November and April-May. In summer there can be hot and muggy periods, while in winter it can get a bit cold.
However, summer is the best season to go to the beach. The sea is warm enough to swim in from January to March.
