Climate chart - Porto Nacional
The climate of Porto Nacional is tropical, with a rainy season from October to April and a dry season from May to September.
The city is located in Brazil, in the state of Tocantins and along the river of the same name, at 10 degrees south latitude and 240 meters (785 feet) above sea level. The river is very wide because a hydroelectric power plant was built further north, near the city of Lajeado.
About 60 km (37 miles) further north is the state capital, Palmas, which has a similar climate. We are in a transition zone between the north-west of Brazil, where the Amazon rainforest is located, and the north-east, which is more arid.
From June to August, the dry period, would be the austral winter, and in fact the night temperatures decrease a bit, but during the day it is very hot. In addition, from mid-August to October, the temperature rises and the hottest days of the year are recorded, before the rains. In September 2010, the temperature reached 42 °C (107.5 °F), and the average high was 37.9 °C (100 °F).
