Climate chart - Passo Fundo
The climate of Passo Fundo is subtropical, with mild winters (May to August) and warm summers (December to March). The rains are abundant all year round.
The city is located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost of the Brazilian states, at 28 degrees south latitude and 680 meters (2,200 feet) above sea level.
In winter, from May to August (but sometimes also in September), there can be cold waves from the south, during which the temperature can drop to the freezing point or a little below at night, and can remain around 7/10 °C (45/50 °F) during the day. In July 1981 the temperature dropped to -4 °C (25 °F). Sometimes it can even snow. In July 1975, August 1965 and July 1990 there were heavy snowfalls.
However, cool periods can also occur in summer, in fact, the minimum temperature can drop to 10 °C (50 °F) or below even in January and February.

There is no perfect time to visit Passo Fundo. From May to August, temperatures are mild and rainfall are a bit rarer, however, it can get cold at times. You can then choose the month of April, in which temperatures are intermediate between winter and summer and the rains are not too frequent.
