The climate of Florianópolis is subtropical, with very mild winters (from June to September) and hot summers (from December to March). There is no dry season, however the rains are more frequent in spring and summer, from October to March.
The city is located in southern Brazil, in the state of Santa Catarina, at 27 degrees south latitude. The city is divided between the island of Santa Catarina and the mainland, to which it is connected by a bridge.
In winter there can be quite cold periods, with highs around 15 °C (59 °F). At night the temperature can drop to 5 °C (41 °F) or less. In July 1975 it dropped to -1 °C (30 °F).
In summer there can be heat waves, with highs of 37/38 °C (99/100 °F).

The best time to visit Florianópolis is from June to August, being the coolest and driest of the year.
