Climate chart - Campo Grande
The climate of Campo Grande is tropical, with a relatively cool and dry season from June to August, and a hot and rainy season from November to March.
The city is the capital of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and is located in the southwest of Brazil, at 20 degrees south latitude and 550 meters (1,800 feet) above sea level.
From June to August, the dry period, is the winter of the southern hemisphere, and in fact the temperature decreases, especially at night. During this period, there can sometimes be outbursts of cold air from the south, and the temperature can drop below 5 °C (41 °F) at night and below 15 °C (59 °F) during the day. In July 1975, the temperature dropped to -1 °C (30 °F).
Instead, from mid-August the temperature begins to rise, and until November, before the wettest period, the highest values of the year can be reached, around 38/40 °C (100/104 °F). However, it can sometimes be very hot even in summer and autumn, from November to April.
In the rainy period, the city is prone to flooding, which can occur when the rains are more intense than usual.
