The climate of Gaborone is sub-tropical semi-arid, tempered by altitude, with a hot, rainy season from November to March and a long dry season from April to October, within which there is a cool period from May to August. In the latter, at night the temperature can drop a few degrees below freezing. During the day, it can get very hot from September to April.
The city is the capital of Botswana and is located in the south-east of the country, near the border with South Africa and at 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) above sea level.
