In Cochabamba, there is an arid subtropical mountain climate, with stable daytime temperatures throughout the year, while during the austral winter, from May to August, it gets cold at night.
The city is located on the Andean plateau, at 17 degrees south latitude and at 2,600 meters (8,500 feet) above sea level.
The rains are frequent in summer, from November to March, even though they are not abundant, while the winter is dry.
The difference in temperature between night and day is considerable, especially in winter. During the day, the tropical mountain sun warms the ground strongly, but after sunset the temperature plunges by many degrees, and can sometimes drop to freezing or slightly below.
Despite the altitude, from September to March the heat records are 34/35 °C (93/95 °F).
