Climate chart - Dhaka (Bangladesh)
Climate chart - Dhaka (Bangladesh)

The climate of Dhaka is tropical, influenced by the monsoon, with a dry season from November to March and a rainy season from May to October.
The city is the capital of Bangladesh and is located in the center of the country, just north of the Tropic of Cancer, in the huge Ganges-Brahmaputra delta.
In winter, from December to February, the night temperature can drop to 11/12 °C (52/54 °F) or even below. Furthermore, especially in December and January, fog can form, and there can be quite cool days, with highs below 20 °C (68 °F). In January 2013, the temperature dropped to 7 °C (44.5 °F), with a maximum of 16 °C (61 °F).
Dhaka is a very polluted city, and in this period, without rain and with a stable atmosphere, very high levels of pollution are reached.
From February the temperature rises, and already in March there can be very hot periods. From the end of March to the beginning of June, the temperature can reach or exceed 36/37 °C (97/99 °F). In late April 2014, it reached 42 °C (107.5 °F).
During this period, showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon occur, which become gradually more frequent and intense, to the point that May is a very rainy month.
The actual monsoon runs from June to early October. In this period, the rains are frequent and abundant, and the sky is often cloudy.

Dhaka

Dhaka is in the path of tropical cyclones. Typically, cyclones occur from April to December, with two intensity peaks before and after the monsoon (from late April to early June and in October-November).

Best Time

The best time to visit Dhaka is winter, between mid-December and February. Typically, in November and in the first half of December, the weather is good, and it's hot but not too much, but we cannot exclude that some cloud banks can still form, or that a cyclone, maybe outside of the normal season, can arrive. In March and April, it's hot, and thunderstorms, sometimes intense, can develop in the afternoon or in the evening.
