The climate of Yerevan is continental semi-arid, with cold winters, with temperatures often below freezing, and very hot summers. Precipitation is quite scarce.
The city is the capital of Armenia and is located in the west-central of the country, at 40 degrees north latitude, on a plateau. The Hrazdan River, which flows through the city, originates from Lake Sevan.
The altitude of the city varies between 850 and 1,350 meters (2,800 and 4,500 feet) above sea level. The center is at 1,000 meters (3,300 feet). Zvartnots Airport, from which weather data is measured, is located at 865 meters (2,835 ft).
Here, the average temperature ranges from -3.5 °C (25.5 °F) to 27 °C (80 °F) in July and August, with highs around 34.5 °C (94 °F). Here are the average temperatures.

Yerevan

Winter, from December to February, is rather cold, especially at night, when the temperature almost always drops below freezing. In a year there are around a hundred days with low temperatures below freezing, and snow, even if it is not abundant, can cover the ground for entire weeks.
During the most intense cold spells, the temperature can drop to -20 °C (-4 °F) or even below. At the end of December 2002, it dropped to -29 °C (-20 °F), while in January 2008 it dropped to -27.5 °C (-18 °F).
In winter, the mountains are covered in snow, and the inhabitants of the capital go skiing in Tsaghkadzor.

Spring, from March to May, is an unstable season, and is quite rainy and windy. Even in autumn there is a certain increase in rainfall, especially in October.

Summer is hot and sunny. Thunderstorms may break out in the afternoon, although they are generally not strong. The temperatures are very high despite the altitude, especially in July and August, which are clearly the hottest months, even though the humidity is low and the breezes from the mountains bring some relief. In the hottest periods, the temperature can reach or exceed 40/41 °C (104/106 °F). In August 2011 and in July 2018, it reached 42 °C (107.5 °F).
In summer, locals go to the mountains, or to Lake Sevan, to escape the heat.

When to go

The best times to visit Yerevan are spring and autumn, to avoid both the winter cold and the summer heat. It must be said that these are quite rainy seasons with unstable weather, especially spring. All in all, you can choose the periods from mid-April to the end of May, and from mid-September to mid-October.
