Climate chart - Santa Fe
The climate of Santa Fe (Santa Fe de la Vera Cruz) is subtropical, with mild, quite dry winters (from mid-May to mid-August) and hot, rainy summers (from December to February). In summer, the rains often occur in the form of thunderstorms.
The city is located in north-central Argentina, at 31 degrees south latitude, on the eastern edge of the Pampa, on the banks of the Salado del Norte River, which then flows into the Paraná south of the city. A short distance away is the city of Paraná, across the river of the same name, which flows a few kilometers to the east.
We are in an area where the waters of the rivers have created some lagoons over the centuries. The closest to Santa Fe is the Setúbal lagoon.
As a result of very heavy rains, the waters of the rivers can flood part of the city, as happened in April 2003 and March 2007.

Santa Fe

Even though the winter is mild, there can sometimes be periods a bit cold, especially at night, when the temperature can drop to around freezing or a little below. This typically happens from late May to early September. At Sauce Viejo airport, the temperature dropped to -7 °C (19.5 °F) in July 2004 and to -5 °C (23 °F) in July 2010.
During the day it can get hot all year round, in fact, the heat records are around 30 °C (86 °F) even in winter, in July and August. On the other hand, from September to February, there can be heat waves, in which the temperature reaches or exceeds 38/40 °C (100/104 °F). In January 2022 it reached 41.9 °C (107.4 °F).
But the Pampero, the south wind, is able to interrupt the hot and muggy periods, bringing pleasant temperatures (and sometimes even very cool) for two or three days.

Best Time

It is difficult to find the best time to visit Santa Fe, also because there can be sudden changes in temperature. Anyway, you can choose the period from mid-April to mid-May, in which both temperature and rainfall are halfway between winter and summer.
Winter, from mid-May to mid-August, is the mildest and driest season of the year, but sometimes it can get cold, especially at night.
In spring, starting from mid-August, it can be very hot. Summer is the sunniest season, but it is hot and muggy, and thunderstorms can break out.
