Climate chart - Resistencia
The climate of Resistencia is subtropical, with very mild winters and very hot, rainy summers. In summer, the rains often occur in the form of thunderstorms. Precipitation exceeds 100 mm (4 in) per month from October to April. Winter is the driest season: from June to August, it rains on average for 3/4 days per month.
The city is located in the north of Argentina, at 27 degrees south latitude, in the province of Chaco. On the northern outskirts of the city flows the Río Negro river, while the city of Barranqueras, which is part of the metropolitan area, is located along the bank of the Riacho Barranqueras, a branch of the Paraná. Across the great river is the twin city of Corrientes, which has a similar but slightly milder climate because it is mitigated by the waters of the Paraná.
Even though the winter is mild, there can sometimes be periods a bit cold, especially at night, when the temperature can drop to around freezing or a little below. This typically happens from late May to early September.
During the day it can get hot all year round, in fact, the heat records exceed 30 °C (86 °F) even in winter. The hottest days of the year are generally recorded in spring, in October and November, when the heat records are around 43/44 °C (109/111 °F). However, from September to March, there can be heat waves, in which the temperature reaches 38/40 °C (100/104 °F). In January 2022, for the first time outside of the spring period, it reached 43.7 °C (110.7 °F), and the average high was 39.3 °C (102.7 °F).
