The climate of Malargüe is temperate arid, with quite cold winters (from mid-May to mid-August) and warm summers (from December to February) during the day, but with cool nights.
The city is located in western Argentina, at 35 degrees south latitude, in the province of Mendoza, on a plateau at the base of the Andes, at 1,400 meters (4,600 feet) above sea level. The border with Chile is about 75 kilometers (45 miles) to the west.

There are several volcanoes, including Cerro Payún, which reaches 3,800 meters (12,500 ft) in height.
Instead, 55 km (35 mi) northwest, at 2,250 meters (7,400 ft) above sea level, is the Las Leñas ski resort, where you can ski from mid-June to the end of September.
