Climate chart - Córdoba (Argentina)
Climate chart - Córdoba (Argentina)

The climate of Córdoba, Argentina's second largest city, is subtropical, with dry, mild winters (but during which it can get cold at night), and hot, rainy summers. In summer, the rains often occur in the form of thunderstorms.
The city is located in the north-central of Argentina, at 31 degrees south latitude and at an altitude of 400 meters (1,300 feet). In the vicinity of the city lies a mountain range called Sierras Chicas, whose highest peak is Uritorco, 1,979 meters (6,394 feet) high, while further to the west are the Andes.
We are in the northernmost part of the Pampa.
In winter, the difference in temperature between night and day is often noticeable, and at night it often gets cold. Also, sometimes there can be cold spells, lasting a few days, in which the temperature can drop below freezing. In July 1975 and July 2017 it dropped to -8 °C (17.5 °F).
Snow in Córdoba is very rare, however, snowfalls occurred in July 2000 and 2007 and in June 2021.
During the day it can get hot all year round. In winter, the temperature can reach or exceed 30 °C (86 °F) when the north-westerly wind blows from the mountains. On the other hand, from September to February, there can be heat waves, in which the temperature reaches or exceeds 38/40 °C (100/104 °F).
But the Pampero, the south wind, is able to interrupt the hot and muggy periods, bringing pleasant temperatures (and sometimes even very cool) for two or three days.

Córdoba

Best Time

It is difficult to find the best time to visit Córdoba, as the city is subject to temperature changes. In winter, from May to mid-August, temperatures are generally mild and rainfall rare, so you can choose this period, but it must be said that sometimes it can get cold, especially at night. You can then choose the month of April, in which both temperature and rainfall are halfway between winter and summer.
In spring, starting from mid-August, it is still the dry season, but it can be very hot. Summer, from December to February, is a rainy season and it is often very hot.
