Bernardo de Irigoyen is a small city of 11,000 inhabitants located in the north-east of Argentina, at 26 degrees south latitude and 800 meters (2,625 feet) above sea level, in the province of Misiones, the most northeastern and the rainiest of the Argentine provinces. Across the border with Brazil is the city of Barracão, in the state of Paraná.
The climate of Bernardo de Irigoyen is
subtropical (according to the Köppen classification, humid subtropical climate - Cfa), with very mild winters and warm summers.
The
rains are abundant and there is no dry season, however, they are more abundant in autumn and winter, and a little less in the southern winter.
Due to the altitude, the climate is cooler than in other cities in the province of Misiones.
The
winter, from mid-May to mid-August, is very mild, however, there can sometimes be periods a bit cold, especially at night, when the temperature can drop to around freezing or a little below. The record is -3.7 °C (25.3 °F), set in July 2000.
The
summer, from December to February, is warm, and is not as hot as in the rest of the province. However, rainfall is abundant and humidity is high. In addition, from September to March, there can be heat waves, in which the temperature reaches 35 °C (95 °F).
