The climate of Tebessa is transitional Mediterranean, with some continental characteristics, and semi-arid.
The city is located in north-eastern Algeria, a short distance from the border with Tunisia, and at 850 meters (2,800 feet) above sea level.
Winter is quite mild, however, it gets cold at night, in addition, the city is exposed to cold spells and snowfalls (though not like the cities of the northern plateau).
Despite the altitude, the summer is hot, and it is hotter than on the coast, although it is not as hot as in the desert areas of Algeria. The temperature can sometimes reach or exceed 40 °C (104 °F).
In July 2023 the temperature reached 44.4 °C (111.9 °F), and the average maximum was 39.3 °C (102.7 °F).
