Climate chart - Oran
The climate of Oran is Mediterranean, with mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in the north-west of Algeria, on the coast, and is windy, because it is affected by the typical winds of the Alboran Sea, the west wind and the east wind.
Northwest of the city is Aïn El Turk.
Even though the winter is mild, at night it gets quite cold, from time to time there can be outbreaks of cold air from the north. Occasionally, as in January 1985, March 1993 and January 2005, it can even snow.
However, snow is much more frequent in the hills behind the city.
Throughout the year, the temperature can experience sudden increases when the wind blows from the desert.
The temperature reached 45.8 °C (114 °F) in July 1994, and 43 (109.5 °F) °C in July 1988, August 2010 and July 2023.
