The climate of Jijel (or Igilgili) is Mediterranean, with mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in northeastern Algeria, on the Mediterranean coast.
Even though the winter is mild, from time to time there can be outbreaks of cold air from the north. Occasionally, as in January 2005 and February 2012, it can even snow.
However, snow is much more frequent in the hills behind the city.
Throughout the year, the temperature can experience sudden increases when the wind blows from the desert.
