The climate of Illizi is subtropical desert, with very mild winters (but during which it can get cold at night) and very hot, sunny summers.
The oasis is located in south-eastern Algeria, at nearly 27 degrees north latitude and at an altitude of 580 meters (1,900 feet).
We are north of the Tassili N'Ajjer National Park. The highest peaks of the mountain massif reach 2,000 meters (6,500 feet).
In winter, it can get cold at night, and sometimes the temperature can slightly drop below freezing.
In summer, due to the altitude, temperatures generally remain at slightly lower values than in the lowlands located further north, however, at times they can reach 49/50 °C (120/122 °F). In August 2011 the temperature reached 51 °C (124 °F).
