Climate chart - Chlef
The climate of Chlef (formerly known as Orléansville) is subtropical, with mild, relatively rainy winters and very hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in northwestern Algeria, 40 km (25 mi) away from the sea.
Even though the winter is mild, at night it gets quite cold, moreover, from time to time there can be outbreaks of cold air from the north. Occasionally, as in January 2005 and February 2012, it can even snow.
In summer, the distance from the sea is enough to have very hot days. Furthermore, when the wind blows from the south, the temperature can reach or exceed 45 °C (113 °F).
