Weather and climate in Shkoder (Albania)

Shkodër (or Shkodra) is a city in north-western Albania, located on the southern shore of Lake Skadar and 25 km (15 mi) away from the Adriatic Sea.
The climate is Mediterranean, mitigated by the lake and the proximity of the sea, however, to the west there is Mount Rumija, 1,594 meters (5,230 ft) high, which partly isolates the city from the sea. Furthermore, rainfall is abundant, as in neighboring Montenegro, since this area is exposed to the sirocco winds, and also due to the proximity of the Albanian Alps, which are located to the east.
During cold spells, the temperature can drop to -5 °C (23 °F), and more rarely below. In January 2017 it dropped to -9 °C (16 °F), but in January 1954 it dropped to -13 °C (8.5 °F).
In summer it is often very hot. Furthermore, there may be heat waves, during which the temperature can reach 40 °C (104 °F). In August 2017 it reached 42.6 °C (108.7 °F).
