Thailand - weather in June

Flag - Thailand

Map - Thailand

In June, the climate in Thailand is hot, muggy and rainy. We are in the period of the southwest monsoon.

The temperatures are high everywhere, although a little less than in the previous months. However, in the inland areas of the center-north, when it does not rain, the temperature can still exceed 35 °C (95 °F), and occasionally touch 40 °C (104 °F).

Even though we are in the rainy season, there are some relatively sheltered areas, namely the inland plains and the north-eastern side of peninsular Thailand (see Koh Samui, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla).
Instead, rainfall is particularly abundant, in addition to the areas at the foot of the mountains, on the coasts exposed to the southwest: on the southwestern side of peninsular Thailand (see Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi Islands), and even more so in the coastal stretch south-east of Pattaya (see Chanthaburi, Trat, Koh Chang).

Every now and then, in the period April-June, a cyclone can form in the Indian Ocean, which can hit the continental part of Thailand after having affected Burma (or Myanmar) more directly. In this month, typhoons from the Pacific also begin to appear, but they will be more likely in the coming months. It must be said that typhoons generally affect the continental part of Thailand, reaching it after having discharged the bulk of their energy on Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

The sea in Thailand is always pleasantly warm for swimming. However, during the southwest monsoon, the Andaman Sea (i.e. on the southwestern side of peninsular Thailand) can be rough.

During the month, the day length gradually increases until June 21, the summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. In June, the average day in Thailand is just over 13 hours in the north and 12.5 hours in the south.

The following tables show the climate averages in the month of June in Thailand in a selection of locations.
