Spain - weather in September

In September, the first autumn month, the climate in Spain is cool and humid on the northern coast and in the Pyrenees, while it is still hot and sunny in the centre-south. Temperatures gradually decrease, while rains become more frequent, with the first waves of autumnal bad weather, more likely in the second half of the month.

The average daily temperature is around 19 °C (66 °F) on the northern coast, overlooking the Atlantic (see La Coruña, Gijón, Santander), 18/19 °C (64/66 °F) in the northern part of the plateau (see León, Valladolid, Salamanca), 21.5 °C (71 °F) in Madrid and 22 °C (72 °F) in Barcelona, ​​while it reaches 25 °C (77 °F) in the Andalusian plain (see Seville, Córdoba), which in the warm semester is the warmest area in Europe.
In the southern tip of Spain, in the strait beyond which Morocco is located (see Tarifa), which has a cool and windy microclimate, the temperature drops again, in fact the average is 21 °C (70 °F).
Sometimes in the inland areas it can still get very hot, especially in the first half of the month. For example, the temperature can still reach, and sometimes exceed, 35 °C (95 °F) in Madrid and 38 °C (100 °F) in Seville.

Rainfall is quite frequent in the north, on the Atlantic coast, where it can occur in the form of drizzle or short showers, while it is still quite rare and generally not abundant in the center-south.

The sea is still warm enough to swim in on the Mediterranean coast, especially in the central part (see Balearics, Valencia, Alicante), where its temperature reaches 24 °C (75 °F).
In the southern part of the Mediterranean coast, in Andalusia (see Málaga), and on the Costa de la Luz, exposed to a portion of the Atlantic Ocean (see Cádiz) the sea is a little cooler, around 22 °C (72 °F).
In the north, on the Atlantic Ocean, the sea is cold in the northwest, in Galicia (see La Coruña, Vigo), since its temperature is 19 °C (66 °F), while on the northern coast (see Asturias, Cantabria, Basque Country), it is very cool but less prohibitive, since its temperature is 20.5 °C (69 °F).

During the month, the length of the days gradually decreases. On September 22, the autumn equinox, the day lasts 12 hours all over the world.
