Spain - weather in May

Flag - Spain

Map - Spain

In May, the last month of spring, the climate in Spain is mild, humid and rainy in the north, in the regions facing the Atlantic Ocean, while it is very mild or pleasantly warm, and often sunny, in the center-south. In the southwest, in the Andalusian plain (see Seville, Córdoba) and in Extremadura (see Mérida), May is already a fairly warm month.

The average daily temperature is 14/15 °C (57/59 °F) in the northern part of the plateau (see León, Valladolid, Salamanca), 15 °C (59 °F) on the northern coast, facing the Atlantic (see La Coruña, Gijón, Santander), 17/18 °C (63/64 °F) in Barcelona and Madrid, while it exceeds 21 °C (70 °F) in the Andalusian plain (see Seville, Córdoba), which in the warm semester is the warmest area in Europe.
In the first half of the month, it can still get a little cold at night, in fact the night temperature can drop below 5 °C (41 °F) in the inland areas of the center-north (see Valladolid, Madrid).
On the hottest days, on the other hand, the temperature can reach 30 °C (86 °F) in the central meseta, while in the south it can already get very hot, especially in the second half of the month, when the temperature can exceed 35 °C (95 °F).

The rains are frequent in the north, in the regions facing the Atlantic Ocean, while in the south they are already quite rare.

The sea is still cold for swimming.

During the month, the length of the days gradually increases, and the days are long. In May, the average day in Spain lasts almost 15 hours in the north and just over 14 hours in the south.

The following tables show the climate averages in the month of May in Spain in a selection of locations.
