Portugal - weather in October

October in Portugal is an autumn month, and is generally very mild in the north and pleasantly warm in the center-south, and characterized by humid winds, which can bring periods of bad weather. However, there are also sunny days, especially in the center-south and in the first half of the month, when it can sometimes still feel almost like summer.

On the coast, the average daily temperature is 16.5 °C (61.5 °F) in Porto, in the north, 19 °C (66 °F) in Lisbon, in the center-south, and 19.5 °C (67 °F) in Faro, on the southern coast (Algarve).
As mentioned, in the center-south it can still be hot, so much so that the temperature can reach and exceed 30 °C (86 °F). Instead, in the second half of the month, it can sometimes be a bit cold at night, in fact the night temperature can drop to around 0 °C (32 °F) in the inland areas of the center-north.

The rains are frequent and abundant in the north, exceeding 150 millimetres (6 inches) in the month on the north-west coast, while they are gradually rarer going south, until they drop to 55 mm (2.2 in) in six days in Faro, on the Algarve coast.

The sea is cold for swimming in the north, where its temperature is 17.5 °C (64 °F), while in the south, on the Algarve coast, it is very cool, but at least it reaches 20.5 °C (69 °F).

During the month, the length of the days gradually decreases. In October, the average day length in Portugal is 11 hours.
