Portugal - weather in May

In May, the second month of spring, the weather in Portugal is generally mild, humid and rainy in the north, while it is very mild or pleasantly warm, and often sunny, in the center-south.

On the coast, the average daily temperature is 16 °C (61 °F) in Porto, in the north, 18.5 °C (65.5 °F) in Lisbon, in the center-south, and 19 °C (66 °F) in Faro, on the southern coast (Algarve).
In the coldest periods, night temperatures can still drop below 5 °C (41 °F) in the north and in the interior, while on the hottest days, generally at the end of the month, it can reach and exceed 30 °C (86 °F) in the north, and 35 °C (95 °F) in the south, especially inland areas.

The rains are frequent and sometimes heavy in the north, where they still exceed 100 millimeters (4 inches) in the month, while they are gradually rarer going south.

In fact, the Azores anticyclone can bring periods of good weather, more likely in the south.

The wind blows often, especially in the north and along the coasts.

The sea is still cold for swimming.

During the month, the length of the days gradually increases. In May, the day in Portugal lasts on average 14 and a half hours in the north and just over 14 hours in the south.
