Flag - Portugal

Map - Portugal

In June, the first summer month, the weather in Portugal is generally quite cool and relatively rainy in the north, and sunny and quite warm in the south.

On the coast, the average daily temperature is 18 °C (64 °F) in Porto, in the north, 21.5 °C (71 °F) in Lisbon, in the center-south, and 22 °C (71.5 °F) in Faro, on the southern coast (Algarve).
In the coastal areas most exposed to the ocean winds, which generally blow from the northwest (see Peniche, Cabo da Roca), it is cool even in the center-south. On the other hand, in the inland area of the south-east, the warmest in the country (see Évora, Beja), the average maximum is 30 °C (86 °F).
In the coldest periods, which occur in the first part of the month, the night temperature can drop even below 5 °C (41 °F) in the north.
On the other hand, sometimes, usually in the second half of the month, there can be heat waves from Africa, during which the temperature can exceed 35 °C (95 °F) in the north and on the coasts of the center-south, and 40 °C (104 °F) in the inland areas of the south (see Évora, Beja).

The rains are clearly decreasing compared to the previous months, however, in the north they are still relatively frequent, 6/7 days in the month, while in the south they are very rare.

The sea is still cold for swimming, especially in the north, where its temperature is 17 °C (63 °F), while in the south, on the coast of the Algarve, it is very cool, but reaches 19.5 °C (67 °F).

During the month, the length of the days gradually increases until June 21, the summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. In June, the day in Portugal lasts about 15 hours, a little more in the north and a little less in the south.
