Netherlands - weather in February

In February, the last month of winter, the weather in the Netherlands is quite cold, grey and wet.

February is also a windy month, as is winter in the Netherlands in general. The wind is strongest and most frequent on the coast, with a maximum in the north, in the West Frisian Islands (see Terschelling). Although the temperature is generally not too low, wind and humidity can increase the feeling of cold.

The temperature increases slightly compared to January. The daily average ranges from about 3 °C (37.5 °F) in the northeast (see Groningen, Enschede) to 4.5 °C (40 °F) in the southwest (see Vlissingen).

The precipitation decreases slightly compared to January, however, it is frequent but generally not heavy, and usually occurs in the form of rain. In any case, it can sometimes snow.

During cold waves, which are becoming rarer due to global warming, the temperature can drop to -10 °C (14 °F), and sometimes below.
On the other hand, on milder days, which can be windy, the temperature can reach 13/14 °C (55/57 °F), and sometimes exceed that.

The sun is rarely seen: the sky is often cloudy.

The days are still quite short, however, they are a little longer than in January, and their length gradually increases over the course of the month. In February, the average day in the Netherlands is 10 hours long.
