Netherlands - weather in August

Flag - Netherlands

Map - Netherlands

In August, the last month of summer, the climate in the Netherlands is very mild, with slight differences between the areas, in fact it is a little more cool, humid and windy on the northern coast, in the West Frisian Islands (see Terschelling), and relatively warm in the southernmost areas and farthest from the sea (see Eindhoven, Maastricht).

The average daily temperature ranges from 17 °C (62.5 °F) in the far north (West Frisian Islands, see Terschelling) to 18.5/19 °C (65/66 °F) in the south (see Vlissingen, Maastricht).
At night it can get very cool, in fact the temperature can drop below 10 °C (50 °F).
Being influenced by the North Sea, the Netherlands is quite sheltered from the heat waves that are becoming more frequent in some European countries, however, there can sometimes be very hot periods of short duration. The areas most exposed to the heat, where it is easier for temperatures to exceed 35 °C (95 °F), are the eastern (see Enschede) and southern one (see Eindhoven, Maastricht).

The rains are quite frequent and abundant. August in the Netherlands is the rainiest month of the year, although not in frequency (in autumn the rains are even more frequent).

The sea is cold for swimming, however, its temperature is around 18 °C (64.5 °F), the highest of the year, which for tourists from northern Europe can be sufficient.

Although the sun in the Netherlands does not shine very often, it is the sunniest time of year, which runs from April to August.

During the month, the length of the days gradually decreases. In August, the average day in the Netherlands is 14 and a half hours long.

The following tables show the climate averages in the month of August in Netherlands in a selection of locations.
