Italy - weather in October

October in Italy is an autumn month, and is generally a mild month in the north and very mild in the south, and characterized by humid winds, which can bring periods of bad weather. However, there are also sunny days, especially in the center-south and in the first half of the month, when sometimes it can still seem almost summer.

In the plains, the average daily temperature is 14 °C (57 °F) in the north, in the Po Valley (see Milan), 16/17 °C in the center (see Florence, Rome), while it reaches 21 °C (70 °F) in the south of Calabria and in Sicily.
On the warmest days, generally at the beginning of the month, the temperature can reach 27/28 °C (81/82 °F) in the north, and exceed 30 °C (86 °F) in the south, while in the second half of the month, it can sometimes get a bit cold at night, in fact the night temperature can drop to around 0 °C (32 °F) in the center-north.

Rainfall is quite frequent and abundant, and is locally abundant in the areas most exposed to southerly winds (see Genoa, Upper Tuscany, Eastern Alps). October in Italy is the second rainiest month of the year after November, and floods can sometimes occur, even in areas where it normally does not rain much.

The sea is cool for swimming in the north, where its temperature drops below 20 °C (68 °F), while it is still acceptable in the far south, especially in Sicily, where its temperature is still around 23 °C (73 °F).

During the month, the length of the days gradually decreases. In October, the average day in Italy lasts just under 11 hours in the north and just over 11 hours in the south.
