Italy - weather in May

In May, the last month of spring, the climate in Italy is very mild or pleasantly warm, and this is probably the best month to visit.

In the plains, the average daily temperature ranges from 17/18 °C (63/64 °F) in the center-north to 19/20 °C (66/68 °F) in the south. In the first half of the month, it can sometimes still get a bit cold at night, in fact the night temperature can drop below 5 °C (41 °F) in the center-north, while on the warmest days it can reach 30 °C (86 °F) in the north, and exceed this value in the south.

Precipitation is already quite rare in Sicily and Sardinia, while in the north it is moderate. In the Alps and the Prealps, and sometimes in the Po Valley (see Milan, Turin), thunderstorms can break out in the afternoon and evening.
In the Alps and the northern Apennines, above 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) there is often still snow.

The sea is still cold for swimming.

During the month, the length of the days gradually increases, and the days are long. In May, the average day in Italy lasts 15 hours in the north and just over 14 hours in the far south.
