Italy - weather in June

In June, the first summer month, the climate in Italy is hot and sunny at low altitudes, while it is cooler on the hills and in the mountains, with possible thunderstorms.

In the plains, the average daily temperature is 21/22 °C (70/72 °F) in the center-north and 23 °C (73 °F) in the south.
It is generally not as hot as in July and August, furthermore, sea breezes blow on the coasts in the afternoon, however, during the hottest days, generally in the second half of the month, the temperature can reach and exceed 35 °C (95 °F) in the center-north, especially in the plains and inland valleys, while in the south, when the sirocco blows from Africa, it can sometimes exceed 40 °C (104 °F).

The rains are very rare in the south, and quite rare also in the center, some rainy days can occur more easily, and thunderstorms can break out in the afternoon and evening. These thunderstorms are quite frequent in the far north, in the Alps, and also in the Prealps and the prealpine lakes (Maggiore, Como, Garda), and can erupt, more rarely, also in the Apennines, the mountain range that crosses central-southern Italy.

The sea is still a little cool, however, with a temperature of 21/22 °C (70/72 °F), it is not impossible to swim.

During the month, the length of the days gradually increases until June 21, the summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. In June, the day in Italy lasts on average 15 and a half hours in the north and 15 hours in the south.
