Italy - weather in July

Flag - Italy

Map - Italy

In July, the central month of summer, the climate in Italy is hot, muggy and sunny at low altitudes, while it is cooler in the mountains, with possible thunderstorms.

In the plains, the average daily temperature is 24/25 °C (75/77 °F) in the center-north and 25/26 °C (77/79 °F), but locally higher, in the south.
Generally, July is the hottest month of the year in the north, while in the center-south the hottest month is August.
In recent years, with global warming, long periods of very hot weather have occurred. On the coasts, sea breezes blow in the afternoon, while in the Po Valley (see Milan, Bologna), in the inland valleys (see Florence) and in the center of Rome, the heat is often felt. During the hottest days, the temperature can reach and exceed 37/38 °C (99/100 °F) in the center-north, while in the south, especially in Sicily, Sardinia and Puglia, when the sirocco blows from Africa, it can exceed 40 °C (104 °F), with peaks of 45 °C (113 °F).

The rains are very rare or completely absent in the south, and rare in the center, while in the north, in the plains they are quite rare, however, we cannot exclude some rainy days, furthermore, thunderstorms can break out in the afternoon and evening. These thunderstorms are quite frequent in the far north, in the Alps, and also in the Prealps and on the prealpine lakes (Maggiore, Como, Garda), and can erupt, more rarely, also in the Apennines, the mountain range that crosses central-southern Italy.
On average, July in Italy is the driest month of the year, even though it is not in the north.

The sea is warm enough for swimming, in fact, its temperature is 24/25 °C (75/77 °F), and sometimes more in hot periods.

The days are still among the longest of the year, however, during the month their length gradually decreases. In July, the average day in Italy lasts just over 15 hours in the north and 14 and a half hours in the south.

The following tables show the climate averages in the month of July in Italy in a selection of locations.
