Italy - weather in April

In April, the second month of spring, the climate in Italy is generally mild. However, especially in the first twenty days of the month, there can be unstable weather.

In the plains, the average daily temperature ranges from about 13 °C (55 °F) in the north to about 16 °C (61 °F) in the mildest areas of Sicily. On colder periods, the night temperature can drop to about 0 °C (32 °F) in the center-north, while on the warmest days it can reach and exceed 25 °C (77 °F), even in the north.

Precipitation is moderate and relatively frequent, however, in the far south it starts to decrease. In the north, and sometimes in the center-south, it can still occur in the form of snow in the mountains. During the month, on the first warm days, the first thunderstorms can break out in the afternoon and evening in the Alps and Prealps.

The sea is still decidedly cold for swimming.

During the month, the length of the days gradually increases. In April, the average day in Italy is 13 and a half hours long in the north and just over 13 hours in the south.
