Germany - weather in March

Even though it is the first month of spring, March is still a quite cold month in Germany.

The average daily temperature is 4/5 °C (39/41 °F) in the north, in the area influenced by the North Sea and the Baltic (see Hamburg), in the east (see Berlin, Saxony, Thuringia), and also in the southeast, in Bavaria (see Munich). Instead, in the mildest areas, in the west (North Rhine-Westphalia) and in the southwest (see Frankfurt), the average reaches about 7 °C (45 °F).
However, there can be colder periods, during which the temperature can drop below freezing throughout the country, sometimes to -7/-8 °C (18/19 °F) or below, especially in the first part of the month, and it can snow.
Instead, on milder periods, which generally occur in the second part of the month, and which generally last a short time, the temperature can reach, and sometimes exceed, 20 °C (68 °F).

Precipitation is quite frequent everywhere, however, it is generally not abundant, except in the mountainous areas, in the Harz massif, in the center of Germany (see Brocken) and in the small portion of the Alps in the far south (see Zugspitze), where it occurs in the form of snow. However, as mentioned, it can sometimes snow even in the lowlands, especially in the east and in Bavaria (see Munich), although less easily than in the previous months.

The wind blows quite often, and can sometimes be strong, especially in the north and in the mountains.

During the month, the length of the days gradually increases. On March 20, the spring equinox, daylight lasts 12 hours a day around the world.
