Germany - weather in June

Flag - Germany

Map - Germany

In June, the first summer month, the weather in Germany is very mild to warm in Berlin and in most of the country, while it is quite cool, humid and windy on the northern coast.

The average daily temperature is 15/16 °C (59/91 °F) on the northern coast (North Sea and Baltic), 16/17 °C (61/63 °F) in the west (North Rhine-Westphalia), and 17/18 °C in Berlin and in the southeast, on the Bavarian plateau (see Munich, Augsburg), while it reaches 18/19 °C (64/66 °F) in the southwest, in the Rhine valley (see Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Freiburg).
However, temperatures are quite unstable. It can still get a bit cold at times, especially in the first half of the month, as night temperatures can drop to around 5 °C (41 °F) or slightly below.
On the other hand, on hot days, temperatures can reach 28/30 °C (82/86 °F), although this rarely happens along the coast, in the far north.
Furthermore, especially in the second half of the month, there can be heat waves, which used to be very rare but are becoming more frequent due to global warming, and during which temperatures can reach or exceed 35 °C (95 °F). These heat waves will, however, be more likely in the following months, in July and August.

Rainfall is quite frequent, as it happens all year round in Germany. Rain brought by Atlantic disturbances is more frequent in the west, in Rhineland-Westphalia. Furthermore, on warm and sunny days, thunderstorms can break out in the afternoon and evening. These thunderstorms are more frequent in the south, close to the Alps (see Constance, Munich), and even more so in the Alps themselves (see Garmisch, the Zugspitze).

Even though the sun in Germany never shines very often, we are in the sunniest period of the year, which lasts until August.

The sea is decidedly cold for swimming, both the North and the Baltic Sea, since its temperature is 14/15 °C (57/59 °F).

During the month, the length of the days gradually increases until June 21, the summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. In June, the average day in Germany is just over 17 hours long in the north and around 16 hours in the south.

The following tables show the climate averages in the month of June in Germany in a selection of locations.
