Germany - weather in April

Flag - Germany

Map - Germany

April, the second month of spring, is a quite mild month in Germany, however, it is often unstable, and characterized by rapid changes from mild and sunny to cold weather, with showers of rain and sometimes even snow. The Germans call this type of unstable and unpredictable weather "Aprilwetter" (the "April weather").

The average daily temperature is 8/9 °C (46/48 °F) in the north, but also in the south-east, in Bavaria (see Munich), while it is 10/11 °C (50/52 °F) in the mildest areas, i.e. in the west (North Rhine-Westphalia) and the south-west (see Frankfurt).
However, at night the temperature can drop below freezing throughout the country. On the other hand, on milder periods, which generally occur in the second part of the month, and which generally last a short time, the temperature can reach, and sometimes exceed, 25 °C (77 °F), although this rarely happens along the coast, in the far north.

Precipitation is quite frequent everywhere, however, it is generally not abundant. April in Germany is on average the driest, or rather least rainy, month of the year.

The wind blows quite often, especially in the north.

Although the sun in Germany never shines very often, in April begins the relatively sunniest period of the year, which lasts until August.

During the month, the length of the days gradually increases. In April, the average day in Germany lasts just over 14 hours in the north and just over 13 and a half in the south.

The following tables show the climate averages in the month of April in Germany in a selection of locations.
