France - weather in October

In October, an autumn month, the weather in France is cool in the north and mild in the south, and characterized by humid winds, which can bring periods of bad weather. However, there are also sunny days, especially in the center-south and in the first half of the month, when at times it can still seem almost summer.

The average daily temperature is 13 °C (55 °F) on the north coast (Hauts-de-France, Normandy, Brittany), 12.5 °C (55 °F) in Paris and 11.5 °C (53 °F)in the north-east, in Lorraine and Alsace (see Metz, Strasbourg), while it reaches 17/18 °C (63/64 °F) in the south-east, on the Mediterranean coast (see Perpignan, Marseille, Nice) and in Corsica.
At the beginning of the month it can still be hot in the south, in fact the temperature can reach 30 °C (86 °F). During the month, on the other hand, it can get cold, and there may be the first night frosts in the inland areas of the center-north.

The rains are frequent on the Atlantic coasts, and a little less in the south, however, they are at their highest of the year. In fact, October in France is on average the rainiest month of the year. In the south, the rains are a little less frequent, however, they can sometimes be abundant, with the risk of flooding, especially in the south-east region, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

France is a fairly windy country. In the north, in Hauts-de-France, Brittany and Normandy, and more rarely in the south-west, on the Bay of Biscay, the wind can blow from the Atlantic, while in the south, in the Rhone valley and on the coast, the mistral and the tramontane can blow, cold and dry winds that flow into the Mediterranean.

The sea is cold for swimming on the Atlantic coast, while the Mediterranean is very cool, however, it reaches 21 °C (70 °F) in the extreme south, in Corsica.

During the month, the length of the days gradually decreases. In October, the average day in France is 10 and a half hours long in the north and 11 hours in the south.
