France - weather in June

Flag - France

Map - France

In June, the first summer month, the weather in France is cool and humid on the northern coast, while in Paris and most of the country it is quite warm. In the far south, on the Mediterranean coast, the weather is normally warm to hot and sunny.

The average daily temperature is 15/16 °C (59/61 °F) on the north coast (Hauts-de-France, Normandy, Brittany), and 18 °C (64 °F) in Paris, while it reaches 22 °C (72 °F) in the south-east, on the Mediterranean coast (see Perpignan, Marseille, Nice).

Rainfall is quite frequent on the coasts facing the Atlantic, even though we are in the least rainy period of the year. In the Alps, rainfall is more frequent and can be abundant, also due to the thunderstorms that can break out in the afternoon and evening. These thunderstorms can erupt, although more rarely, in the vast inland areas of France. In the southeast, on the Mediterranean coast, on the other hand, rainfall is rare.

Sometimes there can be hot periods, generally of short duration, and more likely in the second half of the month, during which the temperature can exceed 30 °C (86 °F) in the center-north, and 35 °C (95 °F) in the south.

France is a fairly windy country. In the north, in Hauts-de-France, Brittany and Normandy, and more rarely in the southwest, on the Bay of Biscay, the wind can blow from the Atlantic, even in the form of a breeze when the weather is good.
In the south, in the Rhone Valley and on the coast, summer is the time of year when the mistral and tramontane, cold and dry winds that flow into the Mediterranean, are less frequent. On the other hand, in summer, when the weather is good in this area, sea breezes regularly blow.

The sea is decidedly cold for swimming on the north coast (Normandy and Brittany), while on the west coast (see La Rochelle, Biarritz), the Atlantic is still cold, but at least reaches or exceeds 18 °C (64 °F). In the south, the Mediterranean Sea is a little milder, from 19 °C in Marseille to 21 °C (70 °F) in Corsica.

The days are long, especially in the north, and their length gradually increases over the course of the month, until June 21, the summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. In June, the day in France lasts on average 16 hours and a half in the north and 15 and hours a half in the south.
