Belgium - weather in March

Flag - Belgium

Map - Belgium

In March, the first month of spring, the climate in Belgium is relatively mild on the coast and in the plains, while in the south-east, in the Ardennes, it is a little colder.

March is also a windy month: the windiest period of the year goes generally from November to March.

The average daily temperature is 7 °C (45 °F) on the coast (see Ostend) and in the plains (see Brussels, Antwerp), while it drops to 4 °C (39 °F) in the Ardennes, for example in Bastogne, Spa and Saint-Hubert, which are located further from the sea and at about 500 meters (1,600 feet) above sea level.

However, the weather in March is quite unstable, with possible temperature changes. On the one hand, sometimes cold air can still arrive, with possible snowfall and frost, especially in the Ardennes, and in the first half of the month. On the other hand, with the winds from the south, the temperature can already reach 18/20 °C (64/68 °F), especially in the second half of the month.

On the coast and in the plains, precipitation is frequent, but generally not abundant, and usually occurs in the form of rain, while in the Ardennes it is more frequent, and can occur in the form of snow, although less often than in winter.

During the month, the length of the days gradually increases. On March 20, the spring equinox, the day lasts 12 hours out of 24 all over the world.

The following tables show the climate averages in the month of March in Belgium in a selection of locations.
