Albania - weather in January

In January, the central month of winter, the climate in Albania is generally mild on the coast and on the western plain, where the climate is Mediterranean, while it becomes cold in the inland and mountainous areas.
The average daily temperature is 8/9 °C (46/48 °F) on the coast (see Durrës, Vlorë, Sarandë), it is 7 °C (44.5 °F) in the capital, Tirana, which is located a little further east, while it is just above freezing in the eastern areas (see Peshkopi, Korçë).
Rainfall is abundant on the coast and on the western mountain slopes, where it occurs during the waves of bad weather that hit the Mediterranean areas in winter. In the eastern regions, precipitation is a little more limited, but can occur in the form of snow.
The highest mountains, on the other hand, are normally covered with snow.
During the cold waves that can affect the Balkan Peninsula in winter, the temperature can drop a few degrees below freezing on the coast, and below -10 °C (14 °F) in the eastern areas.
The days are still among the shortest of the year, however, during the month their length gradually increases. In January, the average day in Albania lasts 9 and a half hours.
