Climate chart - Artigas
The climate of Artigas is subtropical, with very mild winters (from June to August) and hot summers (from December to March). There is no real dry season, however, winter is the least rainy season.
The city is located in the far north of Uruguay, at 30 degrees south latitude. Beyond the Cuareim River lies the Brazilian city of Quaraí.
During the day it can be hot all year round, in fact the heat records are around 30 °C (86 °F) even in winter. Instead, from November to March there can be heat waves, in which the temperature reaches 38/40 °C (100/104 °F). But the Pampero, the south wind, is able to interrupt the hot and sultry periods, bringing pleasant (and sometimes very cool) weather for two or three days.
In winter, from June to August, there can be cold waves from the south, during which the temperature can drop to the freezing point or a little below at night, and can remain around 10 °C (50 °F) during the day.
