The climate of Victorville is sub-tropical desert, with mild, relatively rainy winters and very hot, sunny summers.
The city is located north of Los Angeles, at 850 meters (2,800 ft) above sea level, in Antelope Valley, a plateau belonging to the Mojave desert.
In winter, there are mild periods, in which the maximum temperature exceeds 20 °C (68 °F), but also cold periods, in which the temperature drops a few degrees below freezing at night. On the coldest nights of the year, the temperature generally drops to -5/-7 °C (19/23 °F), and sometimes even below. In January 2013, it dropped to -12 °C (10.5 °F). Sometimes it can even snow.
Summer is very hot, and the maximum temperature can reach and exceed 40 °C (104 °F), but luckily the air is dry.
