Climate chart - Redding
The climate of Redding can be defined as Mediterranean, given that winters are mild and rainy and summers are hot and sunny. However, there are some differences in comparison with the typical Mediterranean climate: in winter, fog can form at night and in the early morning, while the summer is very hot; the rainy period is shorter, so in autumn, in September and October, it still rains rarely.
The city is located in Northern California. We are in the northernmost part of Sacramento valley, which is the rainiest in winter, but also the hottest in summer.
In winter, fog can sometimes form, and at night it can be cold, with lows around freezing. Sometimes it can snow. On the coldest nights of the year, the temperature drops a few degrees below freezing. In January 2012 and December 2009, the temperature dropped to -9 °C (16 °F).
On the hottest days of the year, the temperature reaches 43/45 °C (109/113 °F). In 1988, it reached as high as 48 °C (118 °F).
