Climate chart - Cheyenne
The climate of Cheyenne is semi-arid continental, with cold winters and warm summers.

Cheyenne is a city of 65,000 inhabitants, located in central-western United States, in the state of Wyoming, of which it is the capital and the largest city, on a plateau 1,850 meters (6,070 feet) above sea level and at 41 degrees north latitude.

To the west are the Rocky Mountains, from which a warm and dry wind, the chinook, often descends. Thanks to this wind, the temperature can exceed 15 °C (59 °F) even in the middle of winter.
On the other hand, for several months a year, cold winds can arrive from Canada.
The city's latitude, however, is not high, and the sun's rays at high altitudes are very strong.
The result is a climate characterized by strong temperature variations between night and day, as well as rapid changes in weather and temperature, depending on the prevailing air mass.

Precipitation in Cheyenne is not abundant: just 390 millimeters (15.5 inches) per year. Winter is the driest season, while the rainiest period goes from May to July, due to afternoon thunderstorms, sometimes accompanied by hail.
Although the climate is fairly dry, the period in which it can snow is long (generally from mid-October to late April), so the amount of snow that falls in a year is considerable (on average, 160 cm or 63 inches).

In winter, the mountain sun warms up the air a lot, but in the evening, if the chinook doesn't blow, the temperature quickly drops below freezing.
Cold spells can be intense, and accompanied by blizzard blasts. Generally, the temperature reaches -20 °C (-4 °F) every year, but sometimes it can reach -30 °C (-22 °F) or below. In recent decades, the coldest record is -33.3 °C (-27.9 °F), set in December 1990. In December 2022, the temperature dropped by 22 degrees Celsius (30 degrees Fahrenheit) in half an hour, going from 6 °C to -16 °C (43 °F to 3 °F) from 1:05 p.m. to 1:35 p.m.

In summer, between night and day, there are almost 20 degrees Celsius of difference (and sometimes even more).
Given the high daily temperature range, even during the hottest periods, nights remain cool. Moreover, being that the humidity is low, the heat of day is bearable (but, as mentioned, the sun beats down hard).
During heat waves, temperatures can reach or exceed 35 °C (95 °F). The heat record is 37.8 °C (100 °F), set in late June 1954 and in July 2022.

In spring and autumn, it can get cold at night and warm during the day. Although it can snow in April and October, the snow generally

In Cheyenne, the sun often shines all year round, and shines for a total of 3,000 hours. In particular, the winter sunshine is remarkable.
