Climate chart - Big Bear Lake
The climate of Big Bear Lake is moderately continental, with cold, snowy winters and sunny summers, which are warm during the day, but with cool nights.
The town is located in California, at 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) above sea level, near the lake of the same name. Nearby is also the town of Big Bear City. We are northeast of Los Angeles, in the San Bernardino Mountains, and within the San Bernardino National Forest. In the area there are two ski lifts.
In winter, during periods of good weather, there are strong temperature fluctuations, so nights are freezing, while during the day it is sunny and the temperature becomes quite mild. However, there are also periods of bad weather, with snowfalls, and cold waves, with intense frosts, during which the temperature can drop to -15 °C (5 °F) or even below. In these cases, the lake can freeze over. On average, 150 cm (59 in) of snow fall per year.
In summer, the days are warm and sunny, while at night it gets cool or a bit cold. On rare occasions, thunderstorms can break out in the afternoon. Typically, the temperature reaches 29/30 °C on the hottest days of the year.
