Diego Garcia's climate is tropical, hot all year round. There is no dry season, so the climate can be defined equatorial, even though the rains are more abundant from September to March and less abundant from June to August.
The atoll, together with the Chagos Islands to which it belongs, forms the British Indian Ocean Territory, and is located south of the Maldives and at 7 degrees south latitude.
The southeast trade winds blow all year round, but especially from June to September.
