Climate chart - Turkmenbashy
The climate of Turkmenbashy is arid continental, with quite cold winters and very hot, sunny summers.
Türkmenbaşy (or Turkmenbashi, formerly Krasnovodsk and Kyzyl-Su) is a city of 73,000 inhabitants, located in Western Turkmenistan, in the Balkan Province, on the coast of the Caspian Sea, and at almost 40 degrees north latitude.

Precipitation is decidedly scarce, amounting to 125 millimeters (5 inches) per year. In summer it almost never rains.

The winter, from December to February, is quite cold, with an average January temperature of around 4 °C (39 °F).
During periods of stable weather, fog can form, although more rarely than in inland areas.
There are quite mild periods, during which the temperature can reach or exceed 15 °C (59 °F), especially in December and February, and more rarely in January.
Due to the arid climate, both rain and snowfall are quite rare, and in any case generally not abundant.
During cold spells, the temperature drops once every few years to -10 °C (14 °F), and more rarely to -15 °C (5 °F) or below. The coldest record is -21.9 °C (-7.4 °F), set in February 1969. That winter, the daily average was -3.7 °C (25.3 °F) in January and -4.6 °C (23.7 °F) in February. Since then, the temperature has only dropped below -20 °C (-4 °F) in January 2008, with -20.6 °C (-5.1 °F).

Summer, from June to August, is very hot and sunny. The average in July and August is 29 °C (84 °F). The Caspian Sea moderates the temperature slightly compared to inland areas, where the maximum temperature is normally of 38 °C (100.5 °F), while increasing the humidity in return.
However, there can be several scorching days, during which the wind blows from the interior, and the temperature exceeds 40 °C (104 °F). The heat record is 45.6 °C (114.1 °F), set in July 2018.
In August 2021, the average maximum was 38.9 °C. (102.2 °F).
