Climate chart - Dashoguz
The climate of Dashoguz is arid continental, with cold winters and very hot, sunny summers.
Daşoguz (or Dashoguz, formerly Tashauz and Dashkhovuz) is a city of 245,000 inhabitants, the capital of the province of the same name, located in northern Turkmenistan, near the border with Uzbekistan, and at almost 42 degrees north latitude.
To the east, in Uzbekistan, flows the river Amu Darya. About 175 km (110 mi) to the west, instead, in the area once occupied by the Aral Sea, we find lake Sarygamysh, fed by a branch of the Amu Darya.

Precipitation is decidedly scarce, around 100 millimeters (4 inches) per year. Summer is the driest season.

Winter, from December to February, is cold: the average temperature in January is about -1.5 °C (29.5 °F). Due to its northern location, winters in Daşoguz are colder than in the major cities of Turkmenistan, which are located further south.
Sometimes, southerly winds can bring mild air, so much so that temperatures can reach, and sometimes exceed, 15 °C (59 °F).
Fog can form during periods of stable weather.
Due to the arid climate, snowfall (and rainfall when temperatures are above freezing) is generally light.
During cold waves, the temperature drops almost every year to -15 °C (5 °F) or below. Occasionally it can even drop below -30 °C (-22 °F). It has not done so since 2000, but in January 2008 it came close to this value, with -29.1 °C (-20.4 °F).

Summer, from June to August, is very hot and sunny. The average for July is 29 °C (84 °F). Humidity, however, is low.
On the hottest days, temperatures reach or exceed 40 °C (104 °F) every year, and can sometimes reach 45 °C (113 °F). At the end of June 2022, it reached 46.4 °C (115.5 °F).
In July 2019, the average high was 39.5 °C (103.1 °F).
