Climate chart - Monastir
The climate of Monastir is Mediterranean, with mild, relatively rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in eastern Tunisia, in the southern part of the Gulf of Hammamet, not far from the city of Sousse.
Owing to the proximity to the Sahara, heat waves are possible all year round, but especially in summer, with hot, dry winds able to bring sand and dust.
Although winter is mild, there can sometimes be cold periods, during which the temperature can drop to 2/3 °C (36/37 °F) at night and remain at around 10 °C (50 °F) during the day.
In summer, during invasions of hot air from the desert, which have become more frequent in recent years, the temperature can exceed 40 °C (104 °F). The record heat is 48.3 °C (119 °F), set in July 2023. In the latter month, the average maximum temperature was 37.8 °C (100 °F).
