Climate chart - Lomé
Lomé's climate is tropical, with a hotter, dry period from December to February and a rainy period from April to October.
The city is the capital of Togo and is located on the coast, in the driest part of the country. There are two reasons why the rains are not abundant. In this part of the country, the coast is exposed to the south-east, while the rains brought by the African monsoon come from the south-west. Furthermore, from July to September, the area affected by the rains moves further north, so that rainfall decreases on the coast, even though the sky remains often cloudy. In the end, the only truly rainy months are May and June.
The harmattan, the dust-laden wind, blows in the dry period, but less often than in the north-central of the country.
